Creative Treatment

For this project I've decided to continue working with my friend and create a more complex character called Gain. This character is a young child who is a changling and uses they/them pronouns.

DESCRIPTION: they had badgers feet, ducks legs, mortal body, a cats nose and Bris dreadlocks in the same colour as Ulrics hair. Every step the child took left a small trail of moss peaking through the cobbles.... morphing into their usual green skinned, genderless form.

This character is going to be a new exciting challenge as not only do I have to learn how to draw children and more animals, I also get to play around with their features as they can shapeshift making it fun to play around with proportions and drawing mid transforming scenes too. For this project I will be mainly be focusing on this one specific character as this is going to be very difficult. I might try a new style for this character and rather than cartoon style I will look into "chibi style" as its very rounded shapes and big eyed. However, I will mostly keep to my graphic style if I don't like that style as I'm comfortable with that style. For this term I will stick to paper and pencil then move onto photoshop once I've finalised the design for the character. I will stick to a green palette for the changlings usual form but when they're shapeshifting I will stick to more dull colours for the description above and maybe have fun with other shifts and go for bold and bright colours.

I would like to use "Guidance" for the genderless form as well as "Saltwater Tears" and "Anxiety"

For the brighter shifts that I will create myself I will use "I (Kinda) Like You Back", "Conversation Hearts" and "Sodas & Skateboards"

For the description above I will use "Pumpkaboo" and "Castle In The Sky"

I sent my friend images of the colour palettes I planned to use but as she was still asleep had to wait over an hour for a response but we agreed to use the palettes chosen above.

These are what I will mainly base the character proportions on as I've never drawn children before.

These images are for the description my friend gave me in her book for the character Gain when they try shifting in front of Bris and Ulric.

Above are some colour swatches I did to see how colours the colours of the body of a human and duck would blend together as well as the legs of a duck and feet of a badger would blend too. I'm not sure if I will continue with coloured pencils but this has helped me get a better idea on how the colours should blend.

These are close ups of the palettes I plan to use for the character Gain. Above is the palette for when Gain shifts in front of Bris and Ulric. To the left is the palette for my own design of Gain mid-shift. Lastly, to the right is Gains normal "green skinned genderless form".

This is an experiment I did with some colouring pencils I got for Christmas. I hadn't used colouring pencils in years so although its not perfect I'm proud of the outcome. It was a rushed drawing so the proportions aren't perfect but I'm not that worried about it looking perfect as this isn't the main focus on this project. However I like the way pencils look and realised why I never liked using pencils and it was because I could always see the grey lines from the sketching pencils no matter which pencil I used or how much I rubbed it out. So this time I decided to use pink very lightly as I wanted a peach skin tone and you cant see the lines very much. I love the way the peach tones blended together.

I was going to continue working with PhotoShop this term but my tutor mentioned the college iPad and pen that I didn't know we had and thought I would try experimenting with ProCreate a little this term to see how it works and if I like it or not. I would like to try out more techniques to expand my skillset however if it doesn't work out I will continue on PhotoShop. As always I will start sketches on paper to get a rough idea of how the character should look before finalising the look on digital.
