Creative Treatment

For this project I will be showing off all my skills by doing a collection of pencil drawings, paintings, digital art and possibly dabbling in some after effects. I am continuing to work with my client but am being a little more ambitious, I have gotten a lot of information about possible cities to design so I want to do at least two different locations in drawings and paintings and two more characters on ProCreate.

A couple weeks ago I decided to challenge myself and do a painting, I didn't do any research into it as I only had a short amount of time to do it so I just jumped right in without any plan. This was difficult to do as I couldn't find any small brushes but I coped so after this I decided to buy some more brushes and larger canvases. I used a mixture of acrylic, oil and some watercolour paints as I was limited on colours but I quite like the different textures the different paints make.

I’m definitely going to paint and draw Darkgon and as such need to get back into the habit of drawing buildings. In order to do so I picked a building that is historical and local to me (Ingress Abbey) I didn't go into detail with it as I just wanted to be able to draw a castle like building in preparation.

This is a quick concept for the Castle of Darkgon. I wanted to incorporate details that although won’t be in the final painting add to the story and character of Ulric. This is why there are circles near the top of the castle with Ulric’s two rooms. After speaking to the author of the book she added in some more details that she would like to see added to the castle so the castle will be wider at the bottom and I will be adding more little details to a final sketch of the castle as she wanted to make it known that the dragon’s foot is the entrance to the dungeons.

These are the colour palettes I’m basing my drawings around. The top two are for the characters Yaz and Lynne.

Yaz is described as having Lilac hair and purple skin so looked into colour palettes and what I like about this is not a gradient of white to one shade of purple.

On the top left is the palette for Lynne. I was struggling to find a palette that matched my idea for her as close as possible so I looked into Autumn palettes. I like the colours in this one as I am looking into traditional African Garments and the clothing that I have looked at use a mixture of warm and neutral tones and this was the closest I could find so instead of the blue/teal I will be using bright green.

The bottom left is a forest palette which I will be using for Faekargen. I do have to look into more pallets as I need lighter colours too but this will be good for the base colours.

The bottom right is a palette for Darkgon as its set in the mountains and is the city for demons I imagine it to be the Gothic Victorian style so am using a monochromatic scheme with hints of blue.

I'm planning on creating the characters on procreate. I want to create a couple looks on paper before deciding on the final look on digital. For the digital piece I want to draw them on one document so will have a couple drawings of them on their own and then one of them in an embrace or kissing. I need to look into different poses as I don’t want every drawing to be copies of each other. Also, this will be good practice for drawing characters multiple times to try and get them as similar as possible. I want to do this to show that I can do multiple poses and still get make it look like the same character.

As I have decided to create concepts for Faekargen and Darkgon (if possible) I will be using traditional art for these to show my range of skills. I’m hoping to do mixed media for both. However, I may have to do just a drawing for one of the pieces in case I become behind schedule. If not, I will be using water colour paints as these dry quick and add in final details with pens or pencils as that’ll leave lessen stress and help me meet the deadline.

I decided later on not to go ahead with Darkgon as I thought I wouldn't be able to finish that and Faekargon. I picked Faekargon to go ahead with as its the location I'm more drawn too as it has a long history. After reading my clients book I was intrigued about more of the story behind which is why I wanted to sketch out some ideas or create a quick concept.
