Practical Skills
27/10/21-28/10/21

This was a short task we had to complete in class where we scamped/sketched our ideas for this project, mine is to improve on character design. This involves improving facial features and trying different poses. To do this I watched a tutorial (link on research page.) I struggled at first but managed to get down their technique. I wasn't a fan of how they drew the eyes but I will find another tutorial or find my own way to do it.

This is a quick challenge I gave myself where I attempted to draw the left eye or "the other eye" as most artists refer to it as. I was really pleased with the outcome. I spoke to one of the other 2D artists in my class and he said "try drawing the left eye first" and it really helped get the right shape/size/ proportion. I will definitely be using this in the future.

This week I will be trying to draw faces in different styles to see which I prefer so my characters will actually have faces on them which will add personality to my drawings. I looked up "manga eyes" on google (link on Creative Treatment) and decided to draw some of the left eyes from the image and then tried to recreate the right eye. I put a little tick under the middle eyes as I liked the style so drew the left and right together.
This is a tutorial I found on youtube, I wanted to find new ways of drawing side profiles so I could choose which techniques from each that I like and draw it the way I feel more comfortable. I decided to draw alongside the tutorial and it turned out really well. I much prefer their way to draw eyes over the first tutorial I found so will probably stick to the more cartoon like style. (Recreation below)

Below is a side profile in my preferred style. With the drawing below I decided to use drawing tips from both tutorials I've found and something I've found on my own. This was really fun to do and I will be enhancing these skills and using them in my final project to give more views on my characters.

I forgot to take photos of the process but this was fun to create and although the tutorial was the similar to how I draw anyway, its good to know how to draw a 3/4 view on the other side. I found this tutorial through the side profile tutorial. This really helped me get facial proportions right.

These are some quick skamps and notes I made about characters I am designing for my project to give me have a rough plan for the body type.
This is a workshop we did in class to refresh put skills in aftereffects. we used the final product from "Disect Me" and had to animate a part of the drawing. we imported the PSD into Aftereffects so we still had all the layers. im not very confident in aftereffects so kept my animation quite simple. Below is the glow timing and settings

This week I want to focus on drawing men as I've only ever draw a couple and as this character is quite muscled I asked my friend for a picture with good muscle definition (I don't have permission to post original image) but I think this is a good starting point with muscle drawing.
This is another one of my friends. I'm very pleased with the outcome as the proportions and shading look really good.

Below is a tutorial I followed on google step by step and I think this was very helpful with angles and proportions. I only went up to Step 4 but I think even that was helpful. However I wasn't a fan of the style.

This is from a tutorial I followed on youtube to help me better understand muscle placement for my character design. I found this very useful as he explains where the muscles are and how they work/move.
